What is Self Care? & Why should I practice it?

According to Oxford Dictionary self-care is “the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.”

How do I practice that?

Self-care can be anything you do to take care of yourself. Here are some of the following things that can be self-care:

  • Therapy

  • Walking in Nature

  • Journaling

  • Gym

  • Having a good meal

  • Reading

  • Watching a TV show

  • Shower/Bath

  • Taking care of your body such as Painting nails, going to the salon, getting massages, acupuncture, etc.

  • Getting a good night's rest

What is the point of self-care?

By taking care of your body, mind, and soul you ultimately will

  1. Learn more about yourself

  2. Not Burn out

  3. Help reduce mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, etc.

  4. Be less irritable with yourself or others.

Culture

We are taught/learned from our culture that it is “heroic” to do as much as you can without complain and not taking care of yourself. It is so hard to do everything. Please take time to take care of yourself.
